Why compost?

Healthy soil benefits all of the species in the area. Soil that is aerated and nutrient rich hosts beneficial organisms from the microscopic level to human scale. Here in Flagstaff the soil is thin and requires amendments to be able to grow a garden year after year. Compost is a key component of building soil health. Composting saves valuable materials such as coffee grounds, banana peels, and egg shells from taking up space in the landfill. Composting cuts down on greenhouse gas emissions. It is fun and satisfying to see your kitchen scraps turned into a useful product that helps gardens grow.
